A Closer Look at Our Colour Options

Last week we formally announced our broader range of colour dye options. You can read the full press release here. We are excited about these extended colour options and what this means for our customers and their applications.

Here we want to give you a more visual insight into some of the ways that the colours and the finishing options are being used, you can also see the range of applications that we are fulfilling at 3D People on a daily basis. Sometimes we know exactly what we are printing, and, sometimes we don’t!

Colour separate parts in an assembly to get the desired result.

Different colours can be applied to individual parts to achieve the desired result in an assembly. Since the dyeing process immerses the entire part in liquid, it's not possible to selectively colour specific surfaces. However, you can still colour separate components of an assembly individually to create a multi-coloured outcome.

Colours can be required for industrial parts

Colours are often essential for industrial parts, serving both functional and aesthetic purposes. They can be used for identification, safety coding, or to enhance the overall design of a product. In many cases, colouring industrial parts helps differentiate components, improves visibility in operational settings, or aligns with branding requirements. Whether for practical or visual reasons, applying the right colours ensures the parts meet industry standards and the specific needs of a project.

Colour dye finishes can also be combined with our surface finishing options, whether that is shot peening, vibro polishing, or either of our vapour smoothing options

Surface finishing has a significant impact on the final appearance of dyed parts. Different finishing methods, such as shot peening, vibro polishing, or vapour smoothing, can alter the surface texture and finish, which in turn affects how the colour is perceived. For instance, smoother finishes from processes like vapour smoothing can result in a more uniform, glossy appearance, enhancing the vibrancy of the colour. In contrast, textured finishes, such as those from shot peening or vibro polishing, tend to create a matte or diffused effect, softening the colour and giving it a more understated look. By combining colour dyeing with the right surface finishing, you can achieve the ideal balance of aesthetics and functionality for your parts.

At 3D People we supply high quality 3D printed parts as standard and we are continuing to invest in the highest quality finishing options to provide our customers with the parts they need, when they need them.

You can order your finished parts online today, or speak to us directly if you have specific or customised finishing requirements.
